Seniors - Cultural Perceptions of Jobs
As you are now going through the Prologue of Canterbury Tales, you are seeing the views of certain vocations during the Middle Ages. Lawyers, for example, weren't loved back then either. What do you think the top 5 most respected/loved jobs are? What do you think are the Top 5 Least Respected jobs are? Provide at least a bit of reasoning for your opinions.

My list of the 5 most respected/loved jobs would be as follows:
1.)Knight.I think this job was respected because the Knight is " a most distinguished man" hes a truthful man and he is generous.
2.)Nun. I think this job was respected because the Nun was such an elegant woman. She had great manners
3.)Friar. I think this job was respected because the Friar had fixed up so many marriages, giving each of his young women what he could afford her.
4.)Cook. I think this job was respected because they needed him to live. if he wasnt there they didn't have food.
5.) Skipper. I think this job was respected because the skipper knows his way around. and he was respected for that.
My list of the 5 Least respected/loved jobs would be as follows:
1.)Doctor I think this job was least respected because it talks about how he loved the money more than he loved helping the people.
2.)Miller I think this job was least respected because it talks about how it made him look intimidating and that if he wanted he could hurt you.
3.)Manciple I think this job was least respected because it seems that he doesnt have any friends, and that he does everything by himself.
4.)Summoner I think that this job was least respected because all the children would go and hide when he was comming.
5.) Pardoner I think that this job was least respected because it seems that he was not liked by many. It was like people had talked down to him.

I don't know what you though of my post. Or even of my logic. Let me know.
Thank you for your comment Jesse...however, I was asking about *modern* jobs. I'd really like it if you tried again, but taking a look at modern jobs and modern perceptions. Thanks!
From back then views, modern day jobs are also categorized as these:
Top 5 Most Respected Jobs:
1)Doctor- Doctors are well respected for their knowledge in the anatomy field and also have the tools to aid people who are ill.
2)CEO (Chief Executive Officer)- CEO are well respected because of their high status in a huge corporation (money)
3)Teacher- Educators are well respected because they help build a better generation.
4)Engineers-Engineers help build more new type of modern buildings and some are even known for what they built or structured.
5)Scientist- Scientist are well known for discovering or curing diseases.
Top 5 Least Respected Jobs:
1)Lawyer- Lawyers charge alot of money to be in a court and are also hated in the court.
2)Game Programmer-Programmers are not really even any praise for making the game (only the credits)
3)Cashier- Cashiers stand at a registry counting money and are not really well known.
4)Farmer- Farmers again, are not really well known, and they have to work under the blazing heat/cold wind to pick up and harvest vegetables and such.
5)Janitor- Janitors are least respected because of the type of jobs they do (mop floors, clean windows, etc.)
This are my personal opinions on the top five and least five jobs , and tell me what you have thought of my opinion.

I'm sorry about that. I didn't understand the question. ill try again.
my list of the 5 Most respected/loved jobs would be as follows:
1.) Doctor: I believe that a doctor is a respected job becuase they save peoples lifes. They do it becuase they love what they do.
2.) Cooks: They cook good food for everyone to enjoy. I believe that if there never were cooks then people would starve
3.) Teachers: I believe teaching is a respected job because without them we would never know the things that we know today.
4.) Mechanichs: I think that mechanichs are respected becuase if they were not around how would our cars get fixed?
5.) Law enforcements: I beleived that these jobs are respected because if there were no cops, people would never get arrested. If there was no fire men, peoples houses would burn.
My list of 5 Least respected/loved jobs would be as follows:
1.) Lawyers: Lawyers are one of the least respected jobs. They have to deal with so much stuff, and everything just gets thrown in their faces.
2.) Janitors: I beleive that janitors are least respected. People just throw their trash around and these poor people have to clean it up.
3.) Bussboys: I think that they get low respect becuase if you think about it, their job is to clean tables. You may think its not a hard job, but it is.
4.) Trash Collectors: I believe that trash collectors get low to little respect because if you think about it, why would you respect someone who picks up your trash?
5.) Journalists: I believe that they have little to no respect because sometimes they write bad review.

5 most respected/loved jobs
1)Missionaries:I feel that missionaries have respectable jobs because they devote their lives to helping others.
2)Janitor:In contrast to the belief that janitors do not have respectable jobs, I feel that the duties janitors perform is much more difficult than most other jobs.
3)Teachers:I feel that teachers have very respectable jobs because they influence the opinions and minds of others.
4)Soldiers:In my opinion soldiers are very imperative to society, because they risk their lives to protect the lives of their countrymen.
5)Garbage men:I feel that garbage men are often underestimated. Though the job requires minimal education, it requires a lot of hard work and determination. There are very few people in the world that are willing to collect the trash of others. Thus, I feel that garbage men have respectable jobs.
5 least respected jobs
1)Lawyer:In my opinion, lawyers are malevolent beings willing to go to extremes to make money
2)car salesman:I feel that car salesman are often very shady and instead of caring about the consumer, they often care more about making a quick profit.
3)bartender:In my opinion the job of a bar tender is to get a person drunk. The job does not require any education and instead requirs minute skills.
4)tow truck driver:I feel that tow truck drivers are very useless in the sense that all they do is tow cars and charge incredulous amounts of money for people who wish to get their cars back.
5)telemarketer:I feel that telemarketers are very annoying, in addition, they often do not achieve anything in the sense of marketing.

The 5 most respected jobs to me would be:
1. Movie star: For whatever reason, we love movie stars. Most people respect and almost idolize them. America's developing a fascinating obsession with being recorded and being watched. Most people would aspire to be the center of attention.
2. Doctor: I think alot of people still hold the same view about this job as they did in the past. Doctors are usually assumed to be the highest paying job you can get. Reguardless of the actual book work and years of actual studying to do, a good amount of Americans would aspire to be doctors to "help people" and for that "wicked Jaguar".
3. Pop Star: Alot like the movie star, but different in a way. Pop Stars are known for being cultured and for trying new and interesting thing. People like Madonna promoted Kaballa and the usage of Pilates. Next thing you know, thousands of people are signing up for a religion they know nothing about and an excercise routine that is plain embarassing for the most part.
4. Heads of Major companies: People always admire the heads of companies of almost any field. People like Bill Gates are used constantly as a standard of what kind of goal eveyr entepenuer(sp) should shoot for.
5. Polticians: For the most part, people respect politicians. To be able to get a huge amount of people to follow your lead and agree to your ideas is amazing.
my list of 5 least respected jobs
1. Teachers: think that teachers are disrespected alot of the time, unfortunatley by students. We don't have an emphasis on education as much as we do on being the next movie star. People usually blame teachers for not being able to put together scentences or for occupying thier precious myspace time with homework.
2. Artists: Artists aren't respective. Sure America's gaining a wider understanding of art, but most people have blatant disrespect for an artist's creation. If an artist decides to draw a really nice picture of a fairy and decides to put it on the net, 3 hours later it'll be posted on someone's myspace without any credit given to the person that created it.
3. Police: Alot of people hate the police with a fiery passion. People blame the police for ruining fun. For alot of people, that's waht the police are. They don't enforce the law, but they do find every possible way to ruin your life. Alot of people don't understand the hardships of being a police man and have huge disrespect for them constantly.
4. Janitors: They're always disrespected. People hardly care to clean up after themselves at school or whereever else a janitor would work because they figure that the janitor will get it. There is a huge amount of disrespect for the person that cleans up after them.
5. Presidents: Almost every president has had they're problems. George Bush is constantly being made fun of and disrespcted. He definatley has one of the least respected jobs in America.
Sorry, it's late so probably 23% of this makes sense.
